IVCF seeking "Junk for Justice"

Monday, March 1, 2010

I think I can safely that most of us at Michigan Tech have a lot stuff — I know I do. From video games to books to cooking utensils to clothing, and who knows what else, the Lord has blessed us abundantly. I think I can also say that we all hate injustice. Wouldn’t it just be brilliant if we could use the material blessings in our lives to fight the wrongs in our world? Well, actually we can. On March 25 and 26 in the MUB Peninsula Room, Intervarsity will be running “Junk for Justice.” The idea is simple: collect donated items to sell on campus in order to raise support for such organizations as World Vision. However, IV will not be deciding where the money goes — that is up to all of you. Whenever a purchase is made, that person can choose from a list of organizations to have the money donated to.

This is not Intervarsity’s only goal, though. Their prayer is that in addition to our campus seeing God’s calling in our lives and bearing witness to His heart for justice that Christians would also give up possessions that so often come between us and God. So as you consider whether not you have anything to donate, ask yourself if you can complete this statement: “I could never give up my (insert item).” If you find that there is something to fill that blank, prayerfully consider giving it away. Now, this is not meant to be condemning or accusatory. It is meant to be a conversation between each of us and God where we go to His throne room and ask, “Lord is there anything that stands between you and me?” As you seek the Lord, if you do find you have stuff to give away, please contact Troy Drabek at tqdrabek@mtu.edu.

Whatever you do though, do it with a joyful heart in the knowledge that God loves you very much.
