Let me tell you a story of the God I deserve. He is all powerful, all knowing and ever present. His judgment is righteous and His love is overflowing. He is strict, kind and gentle. In order for the God I deserve to love me I need to abide in His love as an imperfect being. He already knows this and, in His love and mercy, provided a way. However, here in lies the problem, the problem with me. Even though remaining in the Lord’s love should be simple, I find other things more attractive. I turn away from Him, just for a moment and in that split second my adulterous nature reveals itself.

If God’s principles were followed by His people in history there would not have been a need for social activism. However, this argument could be used in many areas of our world today. This semester the question of social activism has challenged me. Although, Jesus could have united with the zealots of His day to expose the oppressive Roman government, He did not. Yet, by example, He challenged the discriminatory social norms of His day.  He spoke to the woman at the well, told the story of the Good Samaritan, welcomed every class, and much more.
