With another semester winding down, once again, we find ourselves transitioning into summer mode.   However, whether taking summer classes, starting that summer internship or co-op, or going home to start a summer job, we can still constantly be sharing our faith with those around us.  Cross Reference would like to recognize several individuals who are using their summer to share the Gospel through various projects around their communities, around the country, and around the world.

Once you return from Spring Break, get ready to rock the MUB Commons once again when Children 18:3 and Aiming for Aurora come to town on March 19.

Spring break is finally here — the long anticipated rest between weeks eight and nine of classes; a time for many to go home to relax, catch up on sleep and spend time with family. For many, it is a mission field, among the friends and family back home who don't yet know Jesus, which is often the most difficult spring break destination, though also the easiest to overlook. For scores of other Michigan Tech students, spring break is a time not to go home, but to go out into the world to serve.

I think I can safely that most of us at Michigan Tech have a lot stuff — I know I do. From video games to books to cooking utensils to clothing, and who knows what else, the Lord has blessed us abundantly. I think I can also say that we all hate injustice. Wouldn’t it just be brilliant if we could use the material blessings in our lives to fight the wrongs in our world? Well, actually we can.

I can still vividly recall my first days of Orientation and classes as an incoming first-year student to Michigan Tech. Having grown up in a Christian home, school and church, I had no idea what to expect on a secular campus. I remember seeking out a role in several Christian organizations, but for whatever reason, I never found my niche. There were plenty of organizations to choose from, both religious and not, and throughout the barrage of pamphlets and recruitment materials, I eventually settled into several campus organizations, none of them faith based.

I became deeply involved with the Michigan Tech Lode as an editor, but I was still seeking to get involved in Christian work. Upon God's leading and encouragement from several others, the idea of a Christian newspaper formed. To make a long story short, after almost a year of planning and recruiting, Cross Reference published its first three issues last semester, and is back this year ready to serve the campus community. This paper seeks to encourage and challenge believers and non-believers alike to openly discuss spiritual matters.

Spring semester may be almost over, but unlike classes, ministry doesn't stop at semester breaks—it just takes different forms.  While most take their ministries to their homes or co-ops for the summer, many students will remain in Houghton for at least part of the summer, and several of the Christian groups will be continuing with Bible studies and fellowship opportunities. His House Christian Fellowship has already announced that they will continue to meet on Tuesdays at 7 p.m.

On March 28, Hamoud Bin Saleh, a Saudi Christian arrested in January for writing about his conversion from Islam and criticizing the Saudi kingdom's crackdown on individual rights, was released from prison, according to Compass Direct News.

Last Saturday, the Wads Annex was filled with singing and other forms of worship, as ICC sponsored “Encounter Worship,” the first of two worship events reaching out to all on campus.

“I have very high expectations that God is/will/and already has used this in people’s lives,” said Ben Aho in Cross Reference’s online exclusive preview to the first event. “It has been awesome to see Him purposefully set things up, on His own terms, and I can only give Him the glory for it.”
